Are Computer Games Really Bad?

Children who spend a lot of their time playing computer games are not doing themselves a service. However, this does not completely mean computer games are bad. They in fact help your children in many ways. Video games have become a passion amongst people, particularly the children of the new generation.

Children are getting into computer games instead of traditional games for a wide variety of reasons. One of these games are the games that motivate the players to attain new targets and scores. One example of a game with this genre is Overcooked. The competitive spirit in the younger generation likes to try and break each level and break their personal best high score as well as have a higher score than their peers. Thus, parents should keep an eye on their children to not spend too much time playing their games as well as eat their meals on time and not lose track of time.

There are also several benefits to playing computer games. Computer games allow children to think quickly and maintain higher levels of concentration for longer periods of time. By increasing their concentration levels, they will be able to attain a longer attention span to pay attention in whatever they may be doing. Children who play games also tend to have better eye-hand coordination. Some studies have found that children suffering from dyslexia can improve their reading abilities by playing action-based computer games that require immense focus. Surprisingly, computer games can also help promote physical activities amongst children. Children who play games that involve soccer, basketball, tennis, and many more are likely to play these sports outdoors.

On the other hand, computer games do have their fair share of disadvantages. If children play games on their computers for hours with no signs of rest, it may affect their eyesight and their brains may find it difficult to process rapidly moving visuals. Another adverse effect computer games can cause is that if the addiction is too high, your child may not want to go out to have physical exercise at all. So, you as parents should monitor and supervise your children when they are playing computer games.

To end off, there are as many advantages as there are disadvantages to playing computer games. Thus, we can tell that computer games are not truly bad for your children. Children should be allowed to play computer games for an hour or two every other day. Parents should and can also help them choose the right games and ensure that they are not spending their whole day in front of their gaming console or computer.
